Regarding Crank....
I have only just started to read, and am having a little trouble adapting to the format as well. I know many of my students have read and liked the book, and even a girl at the YMCA saw me holding it and stopped to tell me what a good book it is. Well, after reading your description, I am having trouble believing any of you! It sounds...hmm...how can I say it...it sounds like a journey I don't want to go down right now! Never thought I'd say this but....I want a happy story! Just reading your blog prepared me for the emotional and disturbing tone of this book...

ReplyDeleteI agree with you! I finished this and I am definitely in need of a happy story! I found myself agitated and angry when reading parts of this book, but at other times just hoping for the best for Kristina and wanting her to rid of the monster and bad habits for good.
Ladies, I agree with both of you. Quite honestly, I worry about anyone reading this book without having someone close by (in real space/time or virtual space) to share his/her responses with. It is so real, so raw and so desperate at times, I think it is a hard read to embrace and needs debriefing. After I first read Crank, I simply REFUSED to read the sequel (Glass) until I knew for sure others would read it at the same time I did so we could discuss it together.
